H1N1 Protocol
Keeping abreast of the information regarding the H1N1 virus and keeping our school community safe is our priority. As the new school year begins, the Hunter College Campus Schools’
administration and the leadership of the College continue to closely monitor the developments regarding the swine flu (H1N1 flu) in New York City. We continue to take proactive measures to safeguard our community.
During the summer months, the building was thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. In addition, hand sanitizers are now available in every elementary school classroom and we are in the process of installing hand sanitizers in the common areas throughout the building. Proper hygiene is also being reviewed in elementary school classes, and in high school health and skills classes. As recommended by the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, signage promoting effective health and hygiene procedures is posted thorough the building.
School wide attendance is monitored every morning and afternoon with regular communication with the school nurse to assure that the environment at Hunter is safe for students and staff.
We continue to follow the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene guidelines in identifying students who may be contagious. The following are the symptoms that we look for:
-A temperature high than 100.4 or higher
-Sore throat
-Cough
-Body aches
-Vomiting/diarrhea
-Headaches
-Lethargy
-Chills
-Fatigue
-Difficulty breathing
Students exhibiting some or all of these conditions are sent home immediately and asked not to return until 24 hours after the symptoms have ceased. Please do not send your child to school if they exhibit or you observe any flu like symptoms. Please contact the school with your child’s
specific symptoms or a doctor’s diagnosis.
Please call the attendance hotline at 212 860-1253. We need this information to continue to make informed decisions regarding the safety of our students and staff.
We will keep you informed as more detailed information becomes available.
Thank you for your cooperation and concern,
Randy Collins
Director Hunter College Campus Schools
Sincerely,
Randy Collins
Principal
